ANALOGUE
POLYGRAPH INSTRUMENT
These
are the older type Polygraph instruments which look like large
briefcases and are the type of instruments you are most likely to see in
the movies with all the knobs, dials
and pens.
The physiological data is scribed onto a running paper chart by means of
ultra thin pens.
Although very few Examiners still use these type of instruments, some
Examiners prefer and still use them today.
COMPUTERIZED
POLYGRAPH INSTRUMENT
The computerized
Polygraph system consists of a Data Acquisition System,
which is the actual Polygraph into which the
recording components plug in. The data is then
converted into digital format and displayed on the computer screen.
The examiner has the option of running the chart
through a printer in real time, or printing it after the examination.
The polygraph recording
components are made up of the following. Cardio Cuff, Galvanic Skin Conductance plates and
two Pnuemo Tubes . Both the analogue and computerized
systems have these basic components. The computerized system however can
have up to an additional five recording devices which include audible and
visual recordings.
